The short answer? If you like your staff and you think that they are doing a good job, then YES, you should absolutely extend gift-giving to the people who work in your home.
Good domestic staff are some of the most-giving employees you’ll ever meet and often go above and beyond to make their employers’ lives that much easier. The holiday season is the perfect time of year to remind your staff just how much you appreciate all that they do for you and your family.
With all bonuses, it should never be an expectation that you give a set amount. Rather you show appreciation for your staff throughout the year and give them a gift for the holidays to emphasise just how much they mean to you.
What should I give my staff as a holiday gift?
Last year we surveyed our vast range of candidates and most answered that they would ideally like a cash bonus, instead of a physical gift. However you could also consider giving them additional paid leave, travel tickets or a gift-card to their favourite store, restaurant or spa/salon.
If your nanny, housekeeper or other staff member has a particular interest or hobby, why not book them a related experience? You could book them into a culinary class, yoga retreat or offer to support them with their tuition. If you don’t want to give cash, you could also offer to make an additional contribution to their HSA (Health Savings Allowance) or Retirement Plan.
