3 Ways to Ensure You’ll Attract Qualified & Experienced Domestic Staff

1. Legal pay

It may sound simple but make sure you are set up to pay your employee properly. It is essential that you pay your household employee through a payroll system and pay  your employer share of taxes. Read more about the benefits of legal pay for your household employees here.

You can also use this useful payroll calculator to help determine your budget for your staff. If you’re working with an agency like MHM, they will be able to help advise you when it comes to average market salaries.

2. Guaranteed hours & overtime

Ensuring your household staff have guaranteed hours is paramount if you want to attract the best possible candidates work for you. Considering guaranteed vs banking hours is something you need to spend time looking at. Our post on how to navigate your family’s guaranteed hours policy gives you a great overview of what you can expect when it comes to hours worked.

3. Benefits

As with all jobs, many of the best household staff will expect to see a range of benefits alongside their salary. But what benefits should you offer a household employee? As a minimum, you need to offer paid vacation days, paid sick days, and guaranteed hours as these are all industry standard.

You should also consider how you will manage yearly bonuses and raises to retain high-quality staff. You can read more about this in our blog post.

Last, but by no means least, to attract a wide talent pool, including those with more experience, you could consider offering a health insurance stipend, and advertise a yearly bonus and yearly raise for high-performing staff. If you’re unsure of where to start with health insurance stipends, read our article on the subject.
