National Nanny Recognition Week: September 18th-24th, 2022

In honor of National Nanny Recognition Week, we have compiled a few ideas for things you can do during this week, during special occasions, or for any reason at all!

How to Make Sure Your Nanny Feels Valued and Appreciated

Showing your nanny you care is a great way to ensure a long-term working relationship, foster effective communication and promote positive interactions. One thing to keep in mind is the way in which your nanny might best feel valued: (Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time)

What Free Perks Can I Offer My Nanny?

Without spending money or going out of our way to do something extravagant, sometimes the little things can go a long way.

When your nanny arrives to work, have their favorite coffee or a special treat for them waiting on the counter.

Work with your kids to create a handmade “kid-given” gift like a handwritten card or a piece of art that the kids created especially for their nanny. This is something that the nanny can hold onto and cherish for years to come. Including any printed photos of your nanny with your children are an amazing heartfelt gift as well.

Find ways to praise your nanny whether it is directly or indirectly. When introducing your nanny to friends, family, or neighbors, share with them how great your nanny is and how much value they have brought to your life. Nannies feel so much pride when they hear statements like, “This is my Nanny _____, she is AMAZING! We cannot imagine our lives without her and we are so very thankful for all that she does for us.”

Send a video message from you and your children wishing your nanny a Happy Birthday, or send your nanny a quick “we miss you!” video message while they are away on holiday. These are great keepsake memories for your nanny and it makes them feel like a valued member of your household.

Whether it is this week or whenever time allows, if possible, let your nanny leave work early one day. This small gesture may not cost you money, but it helps to prevent burnout and it shows your nanny that you understand they have other obligations outside of providing care for your family.

Self-Care Gift Ideas for a Nanny

Nannies are in the business of care and oftentimes they are the ones that forget to care for themselves.

Surprise your nanny with the day off and book them an appointment with a local spa! Another option is to give a certificate to a local spa or massage studio, or nail salon.

Have flowers delivered to your nanny’s home on their day off, or have them waiting on the counter when your nanny shows up to work.

Here are a few of our favorite wellness spots in Chicago for a luxurious retreat:

Alternatively, you can provide a gift basket with a few beauty products, a scented candle, and fuzzy socks. Anyway in which you can provide a personal touch and show you pay attention to their interests can truly mean a lot to your employee.

Additional Benefits and Perks You Can Offer Your Nanny

Take your nanny out for lunch or dinner with the kids, whether it is for their birthday, National Nanny Recognition Week, or for no reason at all! Use this as an opportunity to connect and show your nanny that you care about who they are as a person and show your appreciation by spending quality time with them, listening, and learning.

It goes without saying that offers like bonus pay, additional PTO days, and cash are also additional ways to provide value. On a day to day basis, occasional small gestures like offering to order your nanny lunch or dinner can really go a long way to show you care.
